Major announces £3.4m more to help repair bombed Manchester City Centre
Prime Minister John Major announced a further £3.4m funding for Manchester yesterday in the wake of the IRA bomb blast six weeks ago. He announced £3.2m of Lottery cash from the Arts Council for the damaged Royal Exchange theatre. He also announced £200,000 for the Lord Mayor’s emergency fund which is being used to help small businesses and traders whose properties and stock were destroyed or damaged.
