London’s resi rents ‘increasingly unaffordable’

London’s residential tenants are facing “increasingly unaffordable” rents.

The homeless charity Shelter has said landlords are in some cases demanding that prospective tenants compete in a bidding process for properties, while others are being asked for up to 12 months of rent in advance.

Zoopla found that rental growth in inner London was running at nearly 20% in the first quarter of 2022 and was at 10% in outer London. This compares with growth of around 2% in the first quarter of 2019.
