Private landlords are threatening to increase rents or leave the rental business if they lose the right to ban tenants from owning pets.
The new Renters Reform Bill will force landlords to have a “good reason” not to let tenants keep a pet, with automatic blanket bans prohibited.
According to a survey by insurance company Simply Business, some 54% of landlords are concerned about the increased risk of property damage from pets, with 63% saying they will raise rents as a result. Just 28% of landlords polled allow their tenants to keep pets.
