Landlords are braced for a double whammy from high street giants Arcadia and Debenhams, as the struggling retailers race to finalise waves of store closures before a deadline at the end of the month.
Both aim to agree restructuring plans in time to avoid business rates bills on unwanted shops, property sources said.
The deadline is looming as the authority that oversees business rate bills will base its calculations in two years’ time on rent bills this April.
