JP Morgan’s Bishops Square revamp up for approval
JP Morgan Global Alternatives’ plans to revamp and extend One Spitalfields, E1, is up for approval at Tower Hamlets Council’s planning committee meeting on 6 February.
The proposals for the building at 1-10 Bishops Square, E1, which is already over 1.1m sq ft, comprise an additional two storeys to the building, increasing its height from six to 14 storeys. This would add almost 160,000 sq ft of workspace, including more than 15,000 sq ft of affordable workspace and 34,300 sq ft for retail.
The Foster + Partners-designed scheme, which is claimed to be one of the largest retention and extension schemes in Europe, is targeted for delivery in 2030.

The all-electric building will target 51% lower annual emissions, BREEAM Outstanding and EPC A ratings.
Recommending the scheme for approval, planning officers said the scheme had been “carefully considered to respond sensitively to its historic context”.
They noted the increased size would have “less than substantial harm to the historic environment” near the site, such as the Brick Lane, Fournier Street, Elder Street and Artillery Passage Conservation Areas, among others.
But they concluded the benefits the scheme would bring, such as the affordable workspace and “strong sustainability narrative”, would outweigh these adverse impacts.
The offices are currently occupied by international law firm A&O Shearman until 2027, when the company moves to British Land and GIC’s 1 Broadgate, EC2.
