J D Wetherspoon reveals reopening plans
Wetherspoons has unveiled its plans to adhere to social distancing guidelines once government gives the go-ahead to reopen its 875 pubs.
The pub chain will employ at least two full-time staff per pub to regularly clean surfaces and touchpoints, and will have dedicated staff to monitor the pub in order to maintain social distancing standards.
Pubs will use separate customer entrances and exits where possible, which will be marked out with floor stickers or barriers, and there will be clear printed information providing guidance to customers as they enter the premises.

Pubs will use separate customer entrances and exits where possible, which will be marked out with floor stickers or barriers, and there will be clear printed information providing guidance to customers as they enter the premises.
Inside, screens will be used to protect those working at tills and to create seating areas where it is not possible to separate tables to the social distancing requirement.
Further plans include customers being asked to use the Wetherspoon order and pay app wherever possible, and staff handing over drinks holding the base of glasses. Condiment sachets will be provided with food in place of shared bottles, and hand sanitiser dispensers will be placed around each pub.
Each employee will need to complete a daily health assessment questionnaire to confirm they are fit to work, and have their temperature taken. They will also be given the option to wear provided gloves, masks and eyewear, subject to government guidelines.
Wetherspoon chief executive John Hutson said: “At present the government have not confirmed any reopening date for pubs. However, it is important that we are prepared for any announcement.
“We have spent a number of weeks consulting with staff who work in our pubs, as well as area managers, in order to draw up our plans. The safety of our staff and customers is paramount.”
