Ivanhoé Cambridge and Co-Re’s City office plans approved

Investor Ivanhoé Cambridge and developer Co-Re’s plans to redevelop a mixed-use block in the City of London have been approved by the City of London Corporation’s planning committee.

The scheme will revamp the existing building at 21 Lombard Street, EC3, and raise it from eight to 11 storeys to provide 135,000 sq ft of office space, with a projected completion date of 2028.

Designed by architects Woods Bagot, the building will also retain more than 70% of the existing structure to reduce the building’s embodied carbon.

New materials will include highly insulated, low-embodied carbon panels with integrated timber frame windows to reduce operational carbon. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment will be replaced with a fully electric system.

Alex Thorpe, associate director at Co-Re, said: “21 Lombard Street aspires to be a modern office building for all that embodies high-quality architecture, high standards of environmental and carbon credentials, and places high importance on the health and wellbeing of its occupiers.”

James Taylor, principal at architect Woods Bagot, said: “This approval is great news for the City and is the result of an ambitious team and collaborative process. 21 Lombard Street sets a benchmark of how to reimagine existing buildings as well as forming attractive and sustainable workspace to keep our cities relevant for the future.”
