McKinnon has spent 42 years in retail and retail real estate. He began his career at Marks & Spencer in 1977 in a store management position, before working his way up to a regional manager role in 1995.
After being seconded in 1998 to Manchester Millennium, the task force rebuilding Manchester city centre following the 1996 IRA bomb, McKinnon left M&S in 2000 to take up the chief executive role at the Manchester City Centre Management Company.
He worked there for more than four years before joining the Trafford Centre.
Matthew Roberts, chief executive of intu, told EG: “While everyone at intu is very sad to see Gordon go, he deserves a fantastic retirement following his long and successful career.”
