The biggest shareholder in Intu has made his stake a little bit bigger after buying just under a million shares in the shopping centre company, two weeks after a planned merger deal with the rival Hammerson fell through.
John Whittaker, who sold the Trafford Centre in Manchester to Intu (when it was known as Capital Shopping Centres) in shares rather than cash in 2011, has pushed his stake in the FTSE 250 company up to 27.2%.
The deputy chairman of Intu bought 980,225 shares for £1.9m, increasing his stake from a previous position of 26.6%.
