Insolvencies rise as pandemic protection ends

Corporate insolvencies in England and Wales are on the up following the removal of protection from creditor action, according to the latest figures from the Insolvency Service.

The number of companies going bust reached 1,560 in January, more than double the figure of a year ago and similar to that of January 2020, before the onset of Covid-19.

The rise in January was driven by greater levels of creditor voluntary liquidation, which were 34% higher than in 2020.
