It has a long history of planning approvals and changing ownership.
Tesco, Spenhill Regeneration and Bride Hall lodged various applications separately between 2004 and 2014, initially planning a Tesco superstore and flats, which was withdrawn and replaced with a successful application for around 37,700 sq ft of commercial space, a 70-bedroom hotel and 125 homes.
Fuller Smith & Turner held the freehold to the site, with Tesco having an option to purchase the site. In 2015, Tesco sold the site to Meyer Bergman, which submitted a new application for 377 homes in late 2017. The application was refused by the GLA last month.
Inland will now manage the planning process and will seek to partner with a housing association or build-to-rent operator to bring development forward.
Stephen Wicks, chief executive at Inland Homes, said: “Although it has a long chequered planning history, Inland has an excellent track record in resolving planning issues and securing viable planning permissions and is confident in achieving it on this site, having already formulated a very focused strategy to secure an early consent.”
