Ikea’s BoKlok teams up with TopHat
Ikea and Skanska’s developer BoKlok has teamed up with UK manufacturer TopHat to deliver its UK modular housing.
The partnership will see TopHat build BoKlok’s two and three-bedroom houses over the next five years.
The homes will be made from timber frames and will incorporate low energy consumption, a focus on natural light, and Ikea fittings.

BoKlok has a pipeline of 400 homes in Bristol, Peacehaven and Worthing.
Design work is underway on BoKlok’s Bristol and Peacehaven developments. Subject to planning permission, it expects to begin sales within a year.
Graeme Culliton, BoKlok’s UK managing director, said: “As we venture into the UK, we believe that TopHat will contribute to our long-term vision and success, to provide quality, low-cost homes, using sustainable materials and modern methods of construction.”
BoKlok has developed more than 12,000 homes in 20 years in the Nordics. It launched in the UK in 2018, securing deals with local authorities in the South of England last year.
In an interview, chief executive Jonas Spangenberg told EG the company would seek to expand its UK operations through new land acquisitions, including Ikea’s property portfolio, with care and PRS also on the agenda.
