Hub Box wants 18 new venues, but not in London

The South West’s fastest-growing restaurant, Hub Box, wants to open another 18 venues over the next two years. But it will not be opening one in London.

The chain is one of a growing number of successful regional businesses – Hub Box started its life Cornwall’s only city, Truro – that are planning on growth without entering the crowded and expensive London market. It is following in the footsteps of Bristol-born Loungers, which recently opened its 200th venue, only one of which is in London.

Hub Box founder Richard Boon said he used to struggle to compete for sites against bigger rivals with London restaurants. But that, he said, is changing as landlords pay more attention to the achievements of chains outside of London.
