HS2 faces further delays of up to four years and more cuts under plans being drawn up by ministers to rein in ballooning costs on the high-speed rail link.
Transport department officials have launched “Project Silverlight”, aimed at finding cost savings through a combination of delays and cuts. It has also launched “Operation Blue Diamond”, which is looking at cuts across the project.
The extra delays would mean that the high-speed rail link, the UK’s biggest infrastructure project, would not be completed until 2045 – 12 years later than originally planned.
