Housing Minister told to publish proof that immigration raises house prices

A prominent Brexiteer has been accused of using a “back of the envelope” calculation over claims that immigration has pushed up property prices by 20 per cent over the past 25 years. Dominic Raab, the housing minister, is being urged to publish the Whitehall analysis behind his claim, which a leading expert said was cast into doubt by the findings of other studies. Raab, a leading Brexiteer, said he was writing to the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) urging it to consider the negative effects of new arrivals on demand for homes as well as the positive economic benefits of immigration.
