Housing minister Stuart Andrew quits
Stuart Andrew has resigned as housing minister, after around five months in the role.
Andrew’s exit follows a long line of government ministers and officials that have resigned, following the high-profile exits of chancellor Rishi Sunak and health secretary Sajid Javid last night (5 July).
In his resignation letter, Andrew said loyalty and unity were traits that he let “override” his “judgement recently”. “There comes a time when you have to look at your own personal integrity and that time is now,” he said.

“Our party, particularly our members and, more importantly, our great country, deserve better. Having a marginal seat I have seen the huge sacrifice our members make in volunteering considerable hours to campaign on our behalf and I cannot, in all good conscience, tolerate them having to defend the indefensible.”
Andrew was appointed as housing minister in February earlier this year, becoming the 11th person to hold the role in 12 years. He is the MP for Pudsey, Horsforth and Aireborough.
Unease within the Tory party has grown over allegations of harassment against former housing minister Chris Pincher, who resigned from his role as deputy chief whip last week, and the prime minister’s handling of the scandal.
