House prices defied expectations to rise last month, despite demand remaining “extremely weak”.
On average, UK house prices climbed by 0.9% in October, according to the latest data from Nationwide. It was the largest month-on-month increase since the spring of 2022, when the property market was still enjoying its post-lockdown rebound.
However, prices remain 3.3% lower than they were at this time last year, with the average house price now at £259,423.
