The Institute of Directors has said that holding board positions in Russian companies is “no longer tenable”.
The IoD has urged its 20,000 members to “show their commitment to the principles of democracy” by abandoning board positions in Russian and Belarusian businesses as a result of the “shocking and unlawful actions” in Ukraine.
Director-general Jonathan Geldart said: “Although directors owe legal duties to the companies on whose boards they serve, they should also feel a stronger moral duty… We believe it is no longer tenable for British directors to be involved in governance roles in the Russian economy.”
