Consumers could soon have greater protection from rogue estate agents after the government unveiled details of its crackdown.
The proposals, announced by Alistair Darling, trade and industry secretary, aim to champion the rights of property buyers and sellers with a compulsory ombudsman scheme.
Darling said the moves would drive up standards and “put power back into the hands of the buyer and seller. Buying a home is one of the most important decisions anyone can make. The vast majority of estate agents give that. We want to get rid of those that don’t. They give their industry a bad name.”
