Gensler and Bulb chosen to design Crick labs
The Francis Crick Institute has appointed designers to create laboratory space at British Land’s Regent’s Place campus and the consortium-owned Tribeca development in London’s Knowledge Quarter.
Gensler will act as architect and interior designer for the facilities, which will be branded as The Crick, while Bulb Interiors will undertake fit-out works.
The institute signed two separate agreements earlier this year, with British Land as well as a joint venture between BlackRock, GIC and Reef Group.

The institute signed two separate agreements earlier this year, with British Land as well as a joint venture between BlackRock, GIC and Reef Group.
Under the deals, the institute has agreed to provide fitted lab and write-up space with shared areas as well as access to its scientific expertise.
The facilities will be brought forward at British Land’s 20 Triton Street building, NW1. The offer will span 30,000 sq ft on level 2 of the 89,000 sq ft building.
The institute will also operate a 52,000 sq ft facility at BlackRock, GIC and Reef Group’s Apex building, one of the five mixed-use buildings within the Tribeca scheme, N1.
The Crick is expected to become operational in October this year.
Nathan Morgan, project director at Gensler, said: “We are collaborating with the Francis Crick Institute, British Land, BlackRock and Reef Group to design and deliver laboratories and office facilities across London.
“We are supporting the development of a new era for life sciences, health and biotechnology in London’s Knowledge Quarter through the creation of a vibrant, interconnected community of academics, scientists, businesses, and commercial innovators.”
The news comes after Aviva Capital Partners and mixed-use developer Socius picked Gensler to lead the design of their £1.2bn cancer research and treatment campus in Sutton, south London, last month. The London Cancer Hub will consist of 1m sq ft of labs, R&D space and healthcare facilities.
