A former London base of GCHQ is has been recommended for redevelopment by planners at Westminster City Council.
Located at 2-14 Palmer Street, SW1, opposite St James’s Park Tube station, the property was used by the intelligence and security organisation for more than 66 years.
GCHQ revealed its use of the building in April after agreeing to sell it to the UK arm of South African real estate business Amdec.
Amdec UK subsequently submitted a planning application to demolish and replace the red-brick property with a 46,000 sq ft mixed-use scheme.
The scheme, if approved, will provide up to 39,921 sq ft of offices, 1,963 sq ft of shops and a 7,929 sq ft gym in a new building on the site.
