First-time buyers fall to lowest level in a decade

The number of people buying their first home with a mortgage fell to the lowest in a decade in 2023.

Rising interest rates and the end of the Help to Buy scheme resulted in a fall of 22% to 290,000 first-time buyers, according to Yorkshire Building Society.

It is the lowest figure since 2013, the year when Help to Buy was introduced.
