EG etc: T&H scales new heights to take on cancer

Sara Bailey, head of real estate at Trowers & Hamlins and an ambassador for World Child Cancer, is hosting a charity dinner and auction at the firm’s headquarters at Bunhill Row on 11 October.   Bailey is looking to raise £100,000 to support the work of World Child Cancer, which gives more children a faster route to better treatment. It builds on the challenging fundraising trek that Bailey completed in April, which saw her, together with a small group of people from across the industry, climb Jebel Toubkal, Morocco’s highest mountain. Bailey said it was the hardest thing she had ever done but felt it was completely worth it after seeing the difference that quick treatment and effective support could make for children battling cancer.  The charity dinner will feature music, an auction and raffle prizes. LandAid’s Steptober steps up More than 100 teams from 40 companies have signed up for the first LandAid Steptober challenge.  Teams will be advised on how to set mini-challenges between each other to prepare for the event. Mini-challenges can take place over a month, a weekend or just a day. A monetary forfeit must be set, with the loser donating to LandAid. LandAid will invite all participants to a post-challenge celebration to be held at CMS’s office in Cannon Street in London on 1 November where prizes will be given to the highest team/company fundraiser; location outside London with the highest step count; individual with the highest step count; team/company with the highest step count; and wooden spoon for the lowest step count. Abstract Securities is sponsoring the event and all money raised will go directly towards providing accommodation for young people who have experienced homelessness. Oasis Aquila Housing in Peckham, London will be one beneficiary. LandAid’s grant will help renovate a 16-bed supported accommodation for young homeless women. Contact LandAid here. SDL’s bid to  help hospice for children  SDL Auctions and Together have launched a charity donation programme where children and young people at The Donna Louise hospice in Staffordshire will be given £50 for each loan agreement completed by the auction finance specialists.  Louise Jefferies, director of business development at SDL Auctions, said: “The Donna Louise is such an inspirational charity and it is our ambition to raise more than £150,000 for them this year.” Meadowhall rallies support for the homeless   On 21 September Meadowhall Shopping Centre in South Yorkshire hosted the departure of the Bangers & Cash rally, the UK’s first rally to combine old bangers and fantastic art.  With more than 21 teams taking part, the colourful cars went on a four-day trip from Sheffield to Monte Carlo in aid of youth homelessness charity, Roundabout. Chesterton reaches out to St Mungo’s  Chestertons has funded the full-time employment of a volunteer co-ordinator for charity partner St Mungo’s in a new programme set up to help London’s rough sleepers. The First Response programme, which currently operates in the London boroughs of Westminster, Tower Hamlets, City of London and Islington, aims to reduce long-term homelessness by streamlining the charity’s outreach service and tracking rough sleepers faster through location and engagement.   Linden homes in on many good causes Housebuilder Linden Homes marked this year’s International Day of Charity by celebrating its achievement in raising more than £100,000 so far this year for good causes. Fundraising endeavours taking place throughout Linden Homes UK locations included two charity golf days, which raised £54,000, and a Macmillan Cancer Support charity dinner raising £12,500.    The funds raised have helped Torbay Hospital’s special care baby unit, the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital’s Neonatal Unit, FORCE Cancer and has funded installation of defibrillators and sponsorship of sports and schools.
