Mayor backs ‘matchmaking’ between real estate companies and London schools
A new initiative aims to connect real estate companies with London schools to encourage the next generation into the industry.
Residential developer Mount Anvil’s Makers & Mentors programme has launched the scheme, with backing from the Mayor of London’s Greater London Authority.
The programme involves a “matchmaking service” that will let real estate and construction companies in the capital connect directly with schools and then hold workshops and presentations for students to highlight career opportunities.

“To ensure we’re shaping the built world in a way that’s inclusive, there needs to be more voices and viewpoints represented in the people creating it,” said Darragh Hurley, Mount Anvil’s managing director. “Engaging with young Londoners directly allows us to plant a seed with those who may not have known about this career path before – especially those who don’t know any adults working in this field.”
Jules Pipe, deputy mayor for planning, regeneration and skills, said: “The next generation of Londoners are going to be key in helping us build a better, greener and fairer London – and we will do all we can to support them make informed choices about their future careers.”
Mount Anvil launched Makers & Mentors in September 2020 as a student mentorship programme that attracted 150 volunteers from across the sector.
“The Makers & Mentors programme from the GLA and Mount Anvil is making a difference to equality of opportunity in our sector, because it shines a light on the breadth of careers and paths available,” says Fiona Fletcher-Smith, chief executive of L&Q and one of the initiative’s mentors.
