Crosstree seeks to switch Collective Canary Wharf back to co-living
Crosstree Real Estate Partners has filed plans to change the aparthotel element of its 20-storey The Collective Canary Wharf tower back to co-living use, just three years after its former owners secured the change of use.
The tower, operational since 2019, was originally a 705-bed co-living development before it began running as an aparthotel scheme. Of those spaces, 40 are still used as co-living.
Crosstree bought the site, at 20 Crossharbour Plaza, E14, out of administration last year. Under plans filed with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, the investor seeks to add eight co-living rooms to make 713 in total. The rooms will be developed on the ground floor.

In 2020, the company’s previous owners claimed the site was among the world’s largest co-living schemes.
However, it went on to submit an application later in the year for the site to be used as either a hotel or serviced apartments, which was granted.
The planning statement said: “Shared living provides high-quality, affordable accommodation for London’s working population. With an emphasis on both individual and communal space, Shared Living schemes are not just a home, but a social experience, bringing people together and creating communities for people who are not currently being served by the traditional housing market.”
