Cost of living crisis ‘will hinder levelling up agenda’
The cost of living crisis will make levelling up the UK far harder to achieve, Andy Haldane has said.
The outgoing head of the government’s levelling up task force and former Bank of England chief economist said soaring inflation would negatively impact the prime minister’s flagship policy.
However, he added that this made it all the more important that the goals were achieved.

The outgoing head of the government’s levelling up task force and former Bank of England chief economist said soaring inflation would negatively impact the prime minister’s flagship policy.
However, he added that this made it all the more important that the goals were achieved.
“The cost of everything – including borrowing, energy, goods, services, people – has gone up,” Haldane said. “It is going to make [the levelling up goals] harder to achieve, and even more important to achieve.”
