Companies struggle to make new hires despite job cuts

Around 60% of businesses in Britain are struggling to hire staff despite the rising number of layoffs, according to new research.

Of employers that are actively hiring, 80% have pointed to difficulties in growing their headcounts, a survey by the British Chambers of Commerce has found.

Hospitality and manufacturing businesses have experienced the most trouble with hiring, according to the data, followed by engineering and construction. Companies in the professional services, health and education sectors also reported challenges.
