CMS to investigate cloud computing

The Competition and Markets Authority has launched an investigation into cloud computing services in the UK.

The £7.5bn UK sector, which requires the development of electricity-hungry data sheds, is growing by 20% each year, but is dominated by just two players.

Microsoft and Amazon’s AWS, the so-called hyper-scalers, have a combined market share of 70-80%, Ofcom found, while Google had 5-10%.
