Clothworkers’ Company City tower approved
City planners have approved the Clothworkers’ Company’s plans to redevelop its home on Fenchurch Street, EC3, despite several objections.
Designed by Eric Parry Architects, the 35-storey scheme, to be known as 50 Fenchurch Street, will feature a 13,810 sq ft public roof garden and 4,628 sq ft winter garden at level 10. It will provide 645,834 sq ft of offices and 8,611 sq ft of retail space.
It will also create a new 50,000 sq ft Livery Hall for the Clothworkers’ Company, which has called the site home for nearly 500 years.

Generali, the owner of 120 Fenchurch Street, had argued that the publicly accessible roof garden on top of its neighbouring property would suffer a loss of daylight and loss of view if the plans were approved, while Historic Royal Palaces claimed that the proposed tower would harm the Tower of London’s “outstanding universal value”.
Jocelyn Stuart-Grumbar, clerk to the Clothworkers’ Company, said: “The project is part of our long-term strategy for investing in the future of the Clothworkers’ Company, as well as the Clothworkers’ Foundation, here in the City of London. This scheme offers us the opportunity to unlock our assets, increasing our charitable impact during a period in which this will be so essential.”
The Clothworkers’ Company has appointed Capital Real Estate Partners as development manager. Gerald Eve advised The Clothworkers’ Company on the planning.
