The City of London Corporation has kicked off the planning process for its redevelopment of the former site of the Museum of London.
The museum will move to Smithfield when Smithfield Market is relocated to Barking and Dagenham.
The corporation plans then to redevelop the Museum of London rotunda and Bastion House at 140-150 London Wall, EC2.
In new documents lodged with the corporation’s own planning department, the corporation said: “The proposed development is an office-led, mixed-use scheme, with public and cultural uses, including exhibition, education and event space, food and beverage and commercial retail space.”
The proposals for the new scheme, dubbed London Wall West, will comprise three buildings – a 17-storey New Bastion House, a 14-storey building on the site of the Rotunda, and North Commercial at five storeys.
“At present, the proposals should be considered indicative only and will naturally develop further during the design process,” the corporation said.
In October the corporation said it was reducing the size of the new buildings proposed in response to concerns from residents of the nearby Barbican Estate. Public consultations on the scheme ran in December 2021 and June 2022.
