City Corporation prepares to vote on Amazon Square Mile hub

The City of London Corporation is set to vote in the coming weeks on a new hub for Amazon in one of the capital’s Square Mile car parks. The corporation resolved to grant Amazon a lease for the use of part of the London Wall car park for a last-mile logistics hub in late 2020. The corporation now expects to vote on the plans – which would change the use of 41 car parking spaces to provide the hub and the use of an existing layby for HGV deliveries – at a June meeting. Ahead of that, at next week’s planning and transportation committee meeting, a new sub-committee will be formed solely to vote on the scheme. The planning and transportation committee is not allowed to vote on applications where it has a role managing the land, which includes the car park proposal.
