Chelsea FC’s plans for a full redevelopment of its Stamford Bridge, SW6, home have been recommended for approval by Hammersmith and Fulham Council.
The redevelopment will bring the stadium’s capacity to 60,000, up from its current 42,000. The plans will involve covering over railway lines in order to increase the size of the stadium.
A new entrance to Fulham Broadway Underground station and a direct link to the north side of the site will improve accessibility and manage crowd control.
A total of £22m in s106 payments will be payable to the council upon approval, including £3.75m towards affordable housing, owing to the loss of 38 homes from the development site.
As part of the heads of terms, Hammersmith and Fulham will demand the retention of the scheme’s architect, Herzog Du Meuron.
