A spokesperson at CBRE said: “Ciaran and his successor will consider potential new roles for Ciaran once his successor is on board. Ciaran is committed to a smooth transition of his responsibilities.”
Bird, who has held the top role at CBRE for 12 years, joined the business in 2006 as head of retail.
Prior to CBRE, he was head of southern high street agency at Dalgleish.
Bird’s departure is the second high-profile resignation of an agency head this month, after JLL’s UK chief executive Stephanie Hyde announced her departure.
He said: “I have had the best job imaginable for the past dozen-plus years. After all this time, I’ve decided that the time is right for a new leader to take the reins of the UK business.”
“This year marks 20 years since my prior firm, Dalgleish, was acquired by CBRE. Our business has grown and prospered in ways that I could not have imagined back in 2005. As I plan to hand over the leadership reins, I am comforted in knowing that the next two decades for our business look equally bright.”
Chris Kirk, CBRE’s global chief operating officer, advisory services said: “CBRE has a market-leading position in the UK advisory market, thanks to the strength of our 3,000-person, best-in-class team. Ciaran has been a strong leader for that team, and we appreciate all his contributions to the company.”
“The business will be in great shape when he hands over the leadership reins. Until then, Ciaran and our UK advisory executive committee continue to run the business with an intense focus. This enables us to run a thorough process to identify the right leader who can sustain our momentum and build on our strengths across the UK and Ireland.”
