Cazenove mopped up 4.65m shares in Big Yellow Group at 68p a share.
The purchase means the self-storage company has headroom to buy back only another 1.6m shares under the permission granted to it by investors last summer.
JO Hambro Capital Management said it now held 5.2% of Big Yellow rival Mentmore.
