The Bank of England’s former governor, Mark Carney, will become chair of Brookfield’s new asset management business.
The Canadian investment group is planning to spin off the asset management firm into a separate company that will be valued at tens of billions of dollars. It plans to list 25% of the business this year.
The move is a step up for Carney, who joined Brookfield two years ago as its head of transition investing. He will continue in his existing Brookfield role alongside his new responsibilities chairing the asset management business.
