Carbon Trust moves headquarters to Bankside Yards
The Carbon Trust has signed to relocate its global headquarters to Arbor at Native Land’s 1.4m sq ft riverside mixed-use development, Bankside Yards, SE1.
The climate consultancy has exchanged contracts on 13,800 sq ft of office space on a 10-year lease at level five of Arbor.
When it moves to the building in March 2023, the company will join law firm Lewis Silkin, which pre-leased the sixth and seventh floors last year.

The move to the £2.5bn Bankside Yards scheme – the UK’s first fossil fuel-free major mixed-use development in operation – forms part of the Carbon Trust’s wider decarbonisation goals.
Once complete, the site will source all of its power from fully renewable resources and will feature a pioneering fifth-generation energy-sharing network to deliver reductions in energy use and maintain net-zero-carbon operation on the site.
Tenants of the 19-storey sustainability-focused smart building will be able to collect real-time data on building use to monitor and improve its efficiency. This has the potential to be done via a digital twin or 3D replica of the building. The collaboration between Native Land and building management technology provider Smart Spaces will allow tenants to connect to this infrastructure.
The 223,000 sq ft Arbor building, which is the first to complete at Bankside Yards, has been geared towards catering to demand from media, technology and professional services firms.
Jay Squier, director of commercial and mixed use at Native Land, said the development’s sustainability credentials made it the “natural choice” for the Carbon Trust, which has outlined its commitment to decarbonisation. He added: “We will be working in a true landlord-and-tenant partnership to deliver optimal sustainability management at Arbor.”
Timon Drakesmith, chief financial officer at the Carbon Trust, said Arbor’s “strong environmental credentials, excellent location and great amenities” made it the obvious choice. “It also offers the only all-electric site of this type, in our desired area,” he added.
Once complete, Bankside Yards will extend across 5.5 acres, with workspaces, homes, shops and restaurants, an LGBTQ+ cultural space and a five-star hotel. It will offer eight new buildings and a biodiverse public realm, and will see the restoration of 14 Victorian railway arches for public access.
Knight Frank and Ingleby Trice acted for Arbor, while Cushman & Wakefield acted for the Carbon Trust.
