Can retail help solve London’s housing crisis?

Of the 65 shopping centres across the capital, around one-third have redevelopment plans, and all of these include new homes, according to EG data. Why? Because shopping centres are coming to the end of their life cycle and are modernising in order to  align themselves with the way people want to spend their time and money. This means better retail, more food and beverage offer, leisure uses – and homes. So retail could help to solve the housing crisis by creating schemes that maximise densities near transport links, provide communities where people can work, live and play, and help London become a more polycentric city.
