Selfridges recorded double-digit sales growth in the run-up to Christmas, joining a roster of upmarket department store winners and adding to the pressure on Debenhams to follow suit.
After a mixed festive season for the high street, department stores are celebrating better-than-expected trading as shoppers flocked to the “everything under-one-roof” format.
However, some analysts are concerned that Debenhams, which will update the stock market on January 16, will spoil the picture.
