Bruntwood sheds light on Bury mall redevelopment

Bruntwood and Bury Council are looking to refresh the Mill Gate Shopping Centre as a retail destination. The move is expected to form part of the wider Bury masterplan, spanning 15 acres across the town centre and surrounding areas. The regeneration plans are set to reshape the area into a mixed-use community hub, incorporating retail, leisure, hospitality and housing, with sustainability, education and wellness at its heart. Chris Roberts, chief development officer at Bruntwood, said: “Our commitment to transforming the wider Bury area goes beyond developing new housing, retail units and flexible workspace, but builds on the existing success of Bury’s communities by creating opportunities through the places people live, work and socialise.” Eamonn O’Brien, leader of Bury Council, said: “This complements our proposals to boost Bury Market with a new flexi-hall and the transformation of the adjacent transport interchange.” A draft proposal for the Mill Gate transformation plan will be showcased at two events, which will take place at the shopping centre on 25 November and 6 January. The consultation will run from 16 November until 11 January 2024, with the regeneration framework to be submitted to Bury Council for approval in early 2024.
