British Land and AustralianSuper have signed a memorandum of understanding with King’s College London to establish a science and technology innovation campus at the joint venture’s 53-acre Canada Water development.
The five-year deal will mean King’s and its spin-outs have access to work and lab space at Canada Water, SE16. The campus will host a programme of events, including educational talks and networking sessions, while the partnership will also provide technical services to office occupiers, facilitate introductions and share sector research and analysis.
At an event signing the deal, Emma Cariaga, joint head of Canada Water at British Land, said: “As an opportunity of scale, with proximity to most of London’s major teaching hospitals and the university itself, we have the perfect melting pot for science and technology businesses to think about Canada Water as they determine where they want to locate their business.”
Bashir Al-Hashimi, professor and vice-president of innovation and research at King’s, said: “King’s has ambitious and innovative plans to scale-up our research commercialisation, spin-outs and industry collaboration in health, science and engineering. We are delighted this partnership with British Land and AustralianSuper will help us to deliver this plan through a collaborative and mutually beneficial approach.”
The development is already home to the Paper Yard, 33,000 sq ft of modular labs and workspace.
Elsewhere in its portfolio, British Land has signed an MoU with University College London at Regent’s Place, where it is also collaborating with the Francis Crick Institute to create a new science and technology hub.
