British Land submits plan for £4bn Canada Water regeneration
British Land, the UK’s second-largest property company, has lodged a formal planning application for a £4bn redevelopment of 53 acres in south-east London that will create a new town centre and include 3,000 homes.
The site, which sits between the City and Canary Wharf and is close to Canada Water Underground station, includes the ageing Surrey Quays shopping centre, the abandoned Daily Mail printworks and the disused Rotherhithe police station.

The group has hired Roger Madelin, the man behind the transformation of King’s Cross from an area known for vice and crime into the home of Google’s £1bn UK headquarters, to lead the project.
According to The Times, Madelin who is the head of Canada Water Development, said: “Our aspiration here is to make this the part of London that more people propose in than any other part of the capital.”
