Bristol set to give resi-led city centre scheme the go-ahead

Developer Deeley Freed is set to receive planning approval from Bristol City Council for the demolition of the Galleries shopping centre and development of a residential-led mixed-use scheme. The hybrid planning application proposes development of 450 homes, including a minimum of 20% – or 90 homes – of affordable housing. It also includes up to 750 purpose-built student accommodation bedspaces. Deeley Freed’s proposal also includes the demolition a multi-storey car park next to the Galleries and the creation of a new area of the city centre, with shops, cafes, bars, restaurants, a hotel, and offices. The current underground area of the shopping centre could be transformed into a music venue. Councillors will decide on the plans on Wednesday next week, with planning officers recommending the application be given permission.
