Bristol Premier Inn gets go-ahead for redevelopment

Bristol City Council has approved plans from Olympian Homes and Whitbread to replace the 1970s-built Premier Inn at Bristol’s Haymarket with what will be the city’s tallest building. The pair filed plans to redevelop the site into two towers, one of 28 storeys containing 442 student beds and the other of 18 storeys containing 132 co-living homes, in September 2023.  Of the co-living homes, 20% will be offered at Local Housing Allowance rents. The Hodder+Partners-designed scheme also includes around 200,000 sq ft of public space. The existing building was granted planning permission in 1967 and built in the 1970s as an office block. The property was repurposed as a hotel by Whitbread in 1999. The Premier Inn will continue to operate as a hotel, while Whitbread and Olympian Homes “work through the details of the planning consent with the council”. Richard Pearson, senior development manager at Whitbread Property, said: “The Bristol City Centre Haymarket Premier Inn has reached the end of its operational life. “By redeveloping the site into student accommodation and co-living homes we can realise the true potential of the gateway location at the same time as releasing capital back into the business to invest in our growing estate.” Image © Olympian Homes View other planning applications in Bristol >>
