Boots counting the cost of falling store numbers

A fall in the number of its pharmacies led to a drop in revenues and profits at Boots UK last year.

In the year to the end of last August, operating profits fell by 2.5% to £503m, while revenues declined by 0.6% to £6.84bn, according to its latest accounts.

The company, which is owned by the Walgreens Boots Alliance, of the United States, operated 2,486 stores at the end of the year, down from 2,509 in 2016.
