BL’s Surrey Quays shopping centre scheme set for approval

Southwark Council planning officers have recommended British Land’s Surrey Quays shopping centre redevelopment for approval. Plans include changing the use of the existing 55,283 sq ft of retail space, formerly the Range shopping centre, to a 52,753 sq ft cultural venue for a temporary period of five years. The Range is on the northern end of Surrey Quays shopping centre. The ground floor will include a food hall or leisure space and flexible events space, an indoor farm, external terrace fronting the dock edge, back of house spaces, and an education and screening room. The first floor will include a covered external terrace fronting the boardwalk and a separate room for other events. Southwark Council planning committee will give the decision on 5 February.
