Blair adviser eyes congestion charge extension

The government’s transport adviser David Begg wants mayor for London Ken Livingstone’s plans to charge motorists driving into the centre of the capital to be extended to the outskirts of the city within two years if the scheme is a success.

Speaking to the Financial Times, Begg said congestion charging should be “modified, changed and expanded” to other parts of London if it proved effective.

The charge is due to introduced on 17 February.
