Birmingham City Council is recommended to approve plans for the city’s tallest tower, which would stretch to 61 storeys at Euro Property Investments’ 100 Broad Street.
The scheme is expected to receive consent at the council’s planning committee on 16 January.
100 Broad Street comprises 503 flats with the tallest section fronting Broad Street and rising to 193.3m.
It proposes 44.5% one-bedroom flats and 55.5% two-bedroom flats and a sky lounge designed by Glancy Nicholls architects.
If approved, the scheme would take the crown for the tallest tower and the city’s first ever skyscraper from Court Collaboration’s 51-storey, £155m development at One Eastside, which was approved in December.
It would be the seventh tallest residential tower in the UK, just behind Renaker’s Deansgate Square in Manchester at 200.5m, with the top five spots going to London developments, according to The Skyscraper Center.
Birmingham City Council is embracing height in a bid to boost housing delivery in the city centre. Much of this has been enabled by institutional funds backing build-to-rent schemes, with Greystar in talks to acquire One Eastside and Goldman Sachs and Apache funding Moda Living’s The Mercian.
