Bank of England appoints resi chair
The Bank of England has appointed mortgage specialist Jackie Bennett as chair of its residential property forum.
Bennett takes over the role from Andrew Baddeley-Chappell, who is chief executive of the National Custom and Self Build Association.
The forum, which was set up in 2010, seeks to help monitor the residential property sector in the UK and works alongside the bank’s commercial property forum. Both forums inform the work of the Financial Policy Committee to maintain financial stability in the UK, with the RPF providing insight on developments in the housing and mortgage markets.

Both forums inform the work of the Financial Policy Committee to maintain financial stability in the UK, with the RPF providing insight on developments in the housing and mortgage markets.
Members of the forum, which meets quarterly, include representatives from housebuilders, investors, landlords, intermediaries, housing market experts and commentators, estate agents and financial institutions.
Bennett, who is currently a senior adviser at UK Finance specialising in personal finance, will hold the position for three years. Prior to her current role, Bennett worked as a director and lead executive for the UK Finance Mortgage Product and Service Board. She is also a non-executive director on the New Homes Quality Board and OnLadder, chair of NHQB RemCo and trustee of the FairLife Charity. She has more than 20 years’ experience in the mortgage industry across residential and buy-to-let.
Sarah Breeden, executive director of financial stability strategy and risk at the BoE, said: “The appointment of Jackie Bennett, with her in-depth knowledge of the latest developments in the housing and mortgage market, is an excellent addition to the forum. Her leadership and wide network of contacts to draw on will ensure that the group continues to provide excellent insight, analysis and debate on some of the key issues arising from the residential property sector.”
Bennett said she was “thrilled” to have been appointed and looked forward to “using my knowledge and experience to support the work of the Bank of England at what is an interesting time for the residential property market and its consumers”.
