Asking prices for houses reached record highs in parts of Britain this month, as strong demand from first-time buyers and second movers coincided with a drop in the number of homes coming to market.
The average price of a home increased by 1.5% this month, the largest March rise since 2007, with Wales, the northwest and the East and West Midlands all recording record highs, according to the latest house price index from Rightmove.
The average prices paid by first-time buyers and second-time movers hit record levels across Britain of £189,840 and £272,031 respectively, according to the largest monthly sample of property prices.
