Asda and Sainsbury’s look likely to follow Tesco into in-store picking for home shopping despite the fact they are opening dedicated depots.
The Independent says the two retailers will still use depots but bolster them with a store-based service.
Sainsbury’s has just opened its first dedicated depot in Park Royal, West London. Asda has two in Watford, Hertfordshire, and Croydon, Surrey, with plans to build 12-15 at a cost of £75m by 2005.
